Prepare your evidence

Hu-Mark assesses the traces of your creative process. The more complete and independent of each other they are, the higher the confidence level of your seal can be. Allow about ten minutes of preparation per work.

What sets the level of the seal

  • L1: your tool declaration and the final file of the work.
  • L2: in addition, at least two pieces of process evidence among the timelapse, the layered file and the sketches.

The seal expresses a confidence level based on the evidence submitted, never absolute certainty.

Before you draw: start recording

A timelapse cannot be made after the fact. Turn recording on before the first stroke and leave it on until the end.

Software by software

Menu names may vary with the language and version of your software.

Procreate

Record
Recording is on by default for every new canvas; check it in Actions > Video > Time-lapse Recording.
Export the timelapse
Actions > Video > Export Time-lapse Video, then "Full Length": the 30-second version skips steps.
Keep the layers
Actions > Share > Procreate: the .procreate file keeps all your layers.

Clip Studio Paint

Record
File > Timelapse > Record timelapse, before you start. Unchecking this option deletes the whole recording of the canvas.
Export the timelapse
File > Timelapse > Export timelapse, with the length set to "All".
Keep the layers
Save in .clip format (File > Save).

Krita

Record
Settings > Dockers > Recorder, then the record button. On a modest computer, lower the frames per second.
Export the timelapse
In the Recorder panel, export to MP4. Krita needs FFmpeg: tell it where FFmpeg is installed.
Keep the layers
Save in .kra format (File > Save).

Photoshop

Record
Photoshop does not record a timelapse: start a screen recording before you begin (Cmd + Shift + 5 on Mac, Win + Alt + R or OBS Studio on Windows).
Export the timelapse
Stop the recording at the end and keep the video as .mp4 or .mov. You may speed it up, without cutting any step.
Keep the layers
Save in .psd format without flattening the image (File > Save As).

Sketches and intermediate steps

Export a few steps of your work (sketch, inks, colours) as images. They show how the work evolved, even without a timelapse.

The final file

Submit the version you publish, in the format you publish it in. Hu-Mark computes its SHA-256 fingerprint: this exact file is what anyone will be able to verify.

A third-party testimony

A teacher, publisher or client who saw you work can write a short testimony. Add it to your file as a "Third-party statement".

Good to know

  • Send the original files: not cropped, not retouched, not flattened.
  • Your files are encrypted as soon as they arrive and deleted once the seal is issued: only their fingerprints are kept.
  • Did you use AI for part of the work? Declare it: an accurate declaration counts in the assessment.
